At the present time we can identify 15 separate providers of software more or less suitable for small businesses – but there would be many more if we counted in the sophisticated stuff that is really too expensive (and too complicated) for either small business or beginners.

There are two broad types of software – those that load on your own computer, and those that work over the Internet (online software). The advantages and disadvantages of online software are covered in another post.
