Maybe you should read this…
Some software providers these days make you register software when you install it, PLUS activate it periodically to keep it working.
There is nothing wrong with companies protecting their software, but take a moment to reflect on the following (taken from the MYOB website).

At the present time we can identify 15 separate providers of software more or less suitable for small businesses – but there would be many more if we counted in the sophisticated stuff that is really too expensive (and too complicated) for either small business or beginners.
